Suburban homes south of the city

Henrietta lies south of Rochester, with the Genesee River forming its western border and a short section of the Erie Canal crossing its northeastern side. It is home to the Rochester Institute of Technology and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, which opened next to RIT in 1968, and to Riverton, a planned community established in 1973. The Tinker Cobblestone Farmstead and the Antoinette Louisa Brown Blackwell Childhood Home are among its National Register of Historic Places listings.

Only about 3% of Henrietta's homes were built before 1940; the typical home dates to the late 1970s. That puts many houses at the age where original roofs, builder-grade windows and first-generation vinyl siding are due for replacement, often within a few years of each other.
