Sandstone, the canal and century-old homes

Medina is known for Medina Sandstone, quarried here and used in buildings across the region, including the Million Dollar Staircase in the New York State Capitol. Downtown Medina is a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places, home to Bent's Opera House, and the Erie Canal bends through the village, creating the basin that once served as a stopover for canal boats.

Medina has some of the oldest housing in the area: 57% of homes in the village were built before 1940. Century-old homes reward careful work. Before re-roofing we check decking and framing, older wood siding and trim may hide rot that should be repaired before new siding goes on, and replacement windows need openings measured and sills inspected individually. We discuss and price any necessary repairs before additional work is done.

How we help Medina homeowners

The Village of Medina's Division of Code Enforcement at Village Hall on Main Street handles building permits for the whole village, including the parts in the Towns of Ridgeway and Shelby. If your project requires a permit, we'll discuss the requirements with you before work begins.
