Westside Developers is based in Hilton, so a lot of our deck conversations start in backyards a few minutes from our office. Whether you are in the village, elsewhere in Parma or just outside it, the questions that matter most are the same.

Start with how you will use it

Picture a normal summer evening. Do you want a table that seats six, a grill with room to work around it, or a quiet spot for two chairs? Think about where you will walk from the back door and where the stairs should land. Those answers drive the size and shape of the deck far more than any catalog does.

Wood or composite?

  • Pressure-treated wood is the affordable, traditional choice. It lasts for years with periodic cleaning and staining or sealing.
  • Composite decking costs more up front, but resists rot and splintering and does not need staining.
  • Many homeowners combine the two: pressure-treated framing with composite decking and railings.

The parts you will never see

A deck in Western New York has to carry snow in February and a crowd in July. That comes down to footings that go below the frost line, a ledger board that is properly flashed where it meets your house so water does not rot the rim joist, and fasteners rated for treated lumber. Ask any contractor you are considering how they handle each of these.

Permits and inspections

Most new decks need a building permit and inspections. On a Westside build we apply for the permit and coordinate the required inspections, so you are not left sorting out paperwork.

Reach out early

Decks are a favorite spring and summer project, and settling on a design and materials takes time. Starting the conversation early gives you room to decide without rushing. The estimate is free, and we will look at your property and talk through size, layout and features with you.
